About
This project develops a voice user interface for physical therapy in everyday settings. It allows users to access guidance through voice interaction, helping them manage pain and follow exercises at home.
The system connects users with virtual therapists and adapts to individual needs, making the process more flexible and easier to return to.
Background
In everyday life, physical discomfort has become common, especially for people in sedentary or standing jobs.
This often comes from a lack of awareness around physical therapy, along with the difficulty of fitting treatment into daily routines. As a result, discomfort tends to persist and build over time.
My research begins by looking at how physical therapy is understood and used across different groups in the United States. It focuses on the barriers that prevent people from making it part of their daily lives, and uses those insights to inform the design of the app.
Where are most physical therapists located?
What age group are most physical therapists patients?
Data Research
During my research, I found that physical pain and injury are widespread.
Physical therapy is widely recognized as helpful, yet many people still cannot access it for practical reasons.
Crazy 8
This project focuses on three main pain points: limited access to physical therapy, long wait times, and a lack of clear guidance and training programs.
These issues led to a central question. How can physical therapy become more accessible in everyday life?
From there, I used the “Crazy 8” method to generate a range of possible directions, looking for ways to make therapy easier to reach and use.
User Persona
Design Inspiration
Dogsbody? Brittle Employee?
Terms like “Dogsbody” and “Brittle Employee” reflect the pressure faced by today’s young workforce.
Long hours in front of screens, sedentary routines, and ongoing physical strain begin to affect the body. Discomfort becomes routine. At the same time, it is difficult to find time and energy for proper care.
What is ignored does not disappear. It accumulates, and can develop into more serious conditions over time.
Visual Identity
EaseUp uses a calm and clear visual language. Blue is used as the primary color to create a stable and reassuring tone.
The choice of blue supports the app’s focus on physical well-being, keeping the interface quiet and easy to stay with.
The Poppins typeface adds a clean and readable structure. It keeps the content accessible and easy to follow.
Together, these elements create an environment that feels steady and approachable, supporting users as they move through their recovery.
Components
Voice Assistant (Flexi! )
Using Voiceflow, I built and trained a voice chatbot called Flexi.
I designed the conversation flow and created prototypes to simulate how the system could adjust training programs and manage therapy reminders through voice interaction.
